The Underlying Truth : Sunday March 31st 2012
Ezra 1 -

Our Primary Ministry

As a young preacher. I often asked my mentors and  and peers what the most important ministry in a New Testament Church ought to be.  Every ministry I've known a church to be involved with, from the nursery to the sound room have been mentioned and  very passionately by some. Those kind of answers can leave a young pastor in a quandary as to his priorities.Praying about this and asking the Lord to settle the issue from His Word, I read these words:

Act 6:4  - But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

"Continually" doesn't leave much room for anything else. Further, this was not just one man's opinion!

The "ministry of the word" preaching  and teaching God's Word is singled out as the primary and single most important ministry of a New Testament Church.  Verse 2 of Acts 6 tells us that the 12 Apostles were in one accord

Act 6:2  - Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

Consequently, topical sermons are almost never preached from the GIBC pulpit.  We have committed ourselves to expository - verse by verse; and topical exegesis - preaching what the Bible has to say about specific subjects. This is the Biblical example!

:Mar 4:34 - But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

"Expound" - present and explain systematically and in detail:

"Expository"- explain, illuminate or 'expose' (which is where the word 'expository' comes from).

Luk 24:27  - And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Act 11:4  - But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,
Act 18:26 - And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
Act 28:23 - And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

The messages you will hear on this page, all fall into those two categories.  It is the Word of God that changes men. As long as I breathe, my goal, my aim is to get God's Word into his people in the aforementioned manner.  You will also notice from the example of God's Word, found in Jeremiah 1:9 and 10, that the old beliefs and unBiblical doctrine must  be plowed up and destroyed before there is place for the truth to take root.God's people did not learn in His truth in Egypt (the world).  Then, for those who study the Bible, that the Lord uses a tremendous amount of repetition throughout the Old and New Testaments.  Jesus said:

Mat 5:17 - Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

That is what GIBC is all about. We are here to deliver God’s truth. with understanding . Bring your Bible and join us.   The Pastor
